συνάντηση αιθουσών σύγχρονης τέχνης
ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ
Η
φουάρ χωρίζεται σε τέσσερα βασικά τμήματα: το Basic Plan, το Open Plan,
το Focus: Berlin-New York και το Parallel Plan. Το Basic Plan και το
Parallel Plan περιλαμβάνουν επιμέρους projects.
>
Στο Basic Plan τοπικές και διεθνείς γκαλερί σύγχρονης τέχνης θα παρουσιάσουν
σε περίπτερα (booths) τους καλλιτέχνες που εκπροσωπούν.

- Το
project ‘1+9’
είναι
ένα αυτόνομο τμήμα μέσα στο Basic Plan, στο οποίο η Isabella Bortolozzi
(Bortolozzi Gallery, Βερολίνο) προσκαλεί διεθνείς δυναμικές γκαλερί. Στο
project αυτό θα συμμετάσχουν οι γκαλερί: Ancient & Modern (London,
UK), Andreas Huber Gallery (Vienna, AU), Balice – Hertling (Paris, FR),
Croy Nielsen (Berlin, DE), Dependance (Brussels, BE), Francesca Pia
(Zurich, CH), Isabella Bortolozzi Gallery (Berlin, DE), Micky Schubert (Berlin,
DE), Laura Bartlett Gallery (London, UK), Standard (Oslo, N).

Το Open Plan παρουσιάζει γκαλερί με εκθεσιακό τρόπο σε ειδικά διαμορφωμένο,
ενιαίο χώρο (όχι περίπτερα). Με αυτόν τον τρόπο δίνεται η δυνατότητα
στους καλλιτέχνες να δημιουργήσουν μεγάλου μεγέθους έργα και
εγκαταστάσεις, που η παρουσίασή τους σε περίπτερα είναι συχνά δύσκολη.
Παράλληλα παρέχονται νέες αγοραστικές δυνατότητες στους συλλέκτες, σε
σχέση με αυτές που κατά κανόνα συναντάμε στις φουάρ.

Η Bettina Busse συνεργάζεται σταθερά με το μουσείο μοντέρνας τέχνης της Βιέννης
– MAK. Μεταξύ άλλων έχει επιμεληθεί τις εκθέσεις: Jenny Holzer (2007 –
MAK), Anish Kapoor (2006), Atelier van Lieshout (2005 – MAK). Το 2007
επιμελήθηκε την έκθεση New Visions – Contemporary Art from Austrian
Collections στο πλαίσιο της VIENNAFAIR.

Το project Focus: Berlin, με τίτλο: “ .. then we take Berlin” είναι το φετινό
ειδικό αφιέρωμα σε νέες, ανερχόμενες γκαλερί από το Βερολίνο, σημαντικό
μητροπολιτικό κέντρα της σύγχρονης καλλιτεχνικής δημιουργίας. Την
επιμέλεια έχει αναλάβει η Sarah Belden (Curators without Borders,
Βερολίνο).
Στο project αυτό θα συμμετάσχουν
μεταξύ άλλων οι γκαλερί: Curators Without Borders (Βερολίνο), Galerie
Gillian Morris, Galerie Air Garten, Upstairs Berlin, Stedenfreunde,
Tristesse Delux, Daneyal Mahmood (Νέα Υόρκη).

Ο χώρος Curators Without Borders λειτουργεί ως πλατφόρμα για ανεξάρτητους
επιμελητές, με στόχο να παρουσιάσει ένα ευρύ φάσμα επιμελητικής δράσης,
χωρίς περιορισμούς από παραδοσιακές συμβάσεις ή γεωγραφικά όρια. Βασικές
προτεραιότητες του χώρου, εκτός από τη συμμετοχή στη σύγχρονη
καλλιτεχνική σκηνή του Βερολίνου, η προώθηση ντόπιων καλλιτεχνών στο
εξωτερικό, η δημιουργία σχέσεων μέσα από ανταλλαγές επιμελητικών project
και εκθέσεων σε διεθνές επίπεδο, μέσα από τη συνεργασία με ανεξάρτητους
επιμελητές, φορείς, μουσεία και γκαλερί.

Το Parallel Plan είναι σχεδιασμένο προκειμένου να λειτουργήσει ως
πλατφόρμα για ειδικά project –στο χώρο της Helexpo αλλά και εκτός, σε
διάφορα σημεία της Αθήνας– και περιλαμβάνει εκθέσεις, performances, συζητήσεις
και συναντήσεις, που θα μεγιστοποιήσουν το ενδιαφέρον ειδικών και κοινού.

Στόχος του project είναι να
παρουσιάσει τη δυναμική της τοπικής καλλιτεχνικής σκηνής.

Ομιλίες, συζητήσεις, παρουσιάσεις
project –διεθνούς και τοπικού χαρακτήρα–, παρουσιάσεις βιβλίων, από
επαγγελματίες του χώρου της τέχνης. Καλλιτέχνες, συλλέκτες, γκαλερίστες
και κριτικοί θα συζητήσουν ζητήματα όπως ο ναρκισσισμός, η ιδιοκτησία, η
κατανάλωση και η άσκηση κριτικής.Ανάμεσα στους συμμετέχοντες ομιλητές
είναι η επιμελήτρια Catherine David και ο Christian Viveros-Fauné
(συγγραφέας, επιμελητής, Σύμβουλος Επιμελητής στις φουάρ VOLTA NY και
NEXT), o Roger Buergel (Καλλιτεχνικός Διευθυντής της Documenta XII, 2007)
και η Ruth Noack (Επιμελήτρια της Documenta XII, 2007), November Paynter
(Διευθύντρια του ARTIST PENSION TRUST FUND, DUBAI) Bonnie Marranca
(Συγγραφέας και κριτικός με ειδίκευση στο σύγχρονο θέατρο και το

100 έργα από τη συλλογή Κωστάκη,
την σημαντικότερη συλλογή ρωσικής πρωτοπορίας στον κόσμο που καλύπτουν
την χρονική περίοδο από το 1900 ως το 1943 παρουσιάζονται μέσα από αυτήν
την πρωτότυπη παραγωγή που είναι σχεδιασμένη ειδικά για το Μουσείο
Κυκλαδικής Τέχνης. Η έκθεση περιλαμβάνει ορισμένα από τα σημαντικότερα
έργα της συλλογής, από καλλιτέχνες όπως οι Malevich, Popova, Tatlin,
Rochenko, Nikritin, Lissitzky, κ.ά., καθώς και Το Δωμάτιο του Συλλέκτη,
με προσωπικά αντικείμενα του συλλέκτη Γιώργου Κωστάκη, που παρουσιάζονται
για πρώτη φορά. Θα συνοδεύεται από πρόγραμμα διαλέξεων και εκπαιδευτικών
προγραμμάτων.

Η έκθεση αυτή επιχειρεί –μέσα από
τα έργα 19 καλλιτεχνών που εκπροσωπούν διαφορετικές γενιές και
χρησιμοποιούν διαφορετικά μέσα έκφρασης (ζωγραφική, φωτογραφία, βίντεο,
performance, μουσική, ποίηση)– να φέρει το κοινό σε επαφή με έργα που
δύσκολα μπορεί να δει, με στόχο να συγκινήσει, να προβληματίσει και να
παρουσιάσει έναν πολιτισμό με κοινούς προβληματισμούς με τη Δύση, αλλά
διαφορετικές προσεγγίσεις.

Τα έργα των δύο καλλιτεχνών,
Eugenia Emets (Μόσχα) και Markus Proschek (Βιέννη), προέκυψαν μέσα από το
κοινό τους residency στη Σύρο. Η έκθεση αυτή είναι ένα δείγμα της στενής
συνεργασίας της Art Athina με το Stella Art Foundation που δημιουργεί το
πρώτο Μουσείο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης της Μόσχας με επιμελητή τον Robert Storr.

VIP Πρόγραμμα: Μετά από το ιδιαίτερα επιτυχημένο VIP πρόγραμμα του 2007,
που έλαβε θερμά σχόλια από τους ίδιους τους προσκεκλημένους, αλλά και από
τους γκαλερίστες, η Art Athina θα δώσει και πάλι ειδικό βάρος στην
οργάνωση ενός πλούσιου και ενδιαφέροντος προγράμματος φιλοξενίας. Η
αύξηση του αριθμού των VIPs για το 2008 υπολογίζεται στο 30%.

RESTARTED
Art Athina successfully launched its restart in May 2007.
This year, the fair makes a dynamic comeback, after having
received warm feedback from international and local galleries. The fair
will collaborate once more with Greek and international art
professionals, among them Marina Fokidis, Bettina Busse, Sarah Belden,
Isabella Bortolozzi, in order to deliver a rich, stimulating programme of
projects and events that balance a commercial and curatorial approach.

Art Athina’s curatorial section, introduced in 2007, is brought
back this year with a stronger exhibitional feel. Curator Bettina Busse (Berlin) invites
interesting international art galleries to exhibit sculptures and
installations, stretching the limits of the traditional art fair,

This year’s special tribute will focus on emerging, cutting-edge
galleries from Berlin, invited by Sarah

>Parallel Plan
The fair’s parallel programme provides a platform for curated
projects and events, onsite at
Helexpo and offsite in venues around the city, including exhibitions,
performances, talks and encounters.
This year’s Garage Project, under the title “Athensville” is curated by Marina Fokidis, who will focus on
local artistic production.
The Art Athina Art Talks will feature discussions between art
professionals on various subjects, such as narcissism, ownership,
consumption and criticism. Among the participating speakers are Catherine

offsite exhibitions include:
The exhibition “Five Seasons
of the Russian Avant-Garde. Works from the Costakis Collection”,
organized by the Museum
of Cycladic Art, in
collaboration with the State Museum of Contemporary Art and coordinated
by ArtBOX.gr | creative arts management. This is the first time that part
of the Costakis Collection is presented in Athens, after its acquisition by the
State Museum of Contemporary Art.
The exhibition “Lion under
the rainbow. Art from Tehran”, curated by Alexandros Georgiou, will
present works by 19 artists based in Tehran. The exhibition is a production
of D-ART – Non-Profit Organisation.
The exhibition “Elements of
Light”, curated by Boris Manner, represents Art Athina’s close
collaboration with Stella Art Foundation, that is establishing the first Contemporary Art
Museum in Moscow.
The exhibition is a co-production of Stella Art Foundation and the
University of Applied Arts in Vienna, organized in Greece by the Hellenic
American University and coordinated by ArtBOX.gr | creative arts
management.
Finally, the exhibition “Looking
forward to hearing from you..”, curated by Andre Michael, presents

Parallel Plan
The fair’s parallel programme
provides a platform for a number of curated projects and events, onsite
at Helexpo and offsite in venues around the city, including exhibitions, performances,
talks and encounters.
This year’s Garage Project is titled “Athensville”
and curated by Marina Fokidis. The project includes an exhibition at the
fair venue’s garage, as well as a number of individual projects and works
in various locations in and out of the building. This exhibition presents
artists that live and work in Athens (or
use Athens
as a reference point in their work), selected regardless of generation or
age of the artist or of the work. The main focus of the exhibition is to
create an atmosphere that will convey eccentricities and idioms of the
local art scene. A microcosm that is intended to antagonize the
atmosphere of the main fair, or any other art fair, a microcosm that is
dark, fragile, and in a away more participative, and thus intends to
complement the event.
The Art Athina Art Talks will feature
discussions between art professionals on various subjects, presentations
of local and international projects, institutions and publications. Among
the participating speakers are Catherine David, Christian Viveros-Faune,
Roger Buergel, Ruth Noack, November Paynter, and Bonnie Marranca.
The offsite exhibitions include:
The exhibition “Five Seasons of the Russian Avant-Garde. Works from the Costakis
Collection”, organized by the Museum of Cycladic
Art, in collaboration with the State Museum
of Contemporary Art and coordinated by ArtBOX.gr | creative arts
management. This is the first time that part of the Costakis Collection
will be presented in Athens,
after its acquisition by the State Museum of Contemporary Art.
The exhibition “Lion under the rainbow. Art from Tehran”,
curated by Alexandros Georgiou, will present works by 19 artists based in
Tehran.
The exhibition is a production of D-ART – Non-Profit Organisation.
The exhibition “Elements of Light”, curated
by Boris Manner, represents Art Athina’s close collaboration with Stella
Art Foundation, that is establishing the first Contemporary
Art Museum in Moscow. The
exhibition is a co-production of Stella Art Foundation and the University
of Applied Arts in Vienna, organized in Greece by the Hellenic American
University and coordinated by ArtBOX.gr | creative arts management.
Finally, the exhibition “Looking forward to hearing from you…”
presents contemporary Cypriot artists. It is organized by the Ministry of
Culture and Education of Cyprus and the Embassy of Cyprus in Athens-
House of Cyprus, in
collaboration with the Gounaropoulos

will take place.

Μία έκθεση με έργα Ιρανών
καλλιτεχνών που ζουν και εργάζονται στην Τεχεράνη σε επιμέλεια του εικαστικού Αλέξανδρου Γεωργίου και
οργάνωση της μη κερδοσκοπικής εταιρίας D.ART. Η έκθεση αποτελεί μέρος του
parallel plan της ART ATHINA 2008.
Η έκθεση αυτή επιχειρεί να φέρει
ένα ευρύτερο κοινό σε επαφή με έργα που δύσκολα μπορεί να δει κανείς, με
στόχο να συγκινήσει, να προβληματίσει και να παρουσιάσει ένα πολιτισμό με
κοινούς προβληματισμούς με τη Δύση, αλλά διαφορετικές προσεγγίσεις. Τα
έργα είναι προσωπικά και ιδιαίτερα, παρουσιάζουν διαφορετικές πτυχές της σύγχρονης καλλιτεχνικής δημιουργίας
της Τεχεράνης, συνθέτοντας ένα
μοναδικό και ειλικρινή κόσμο σκέψεων και συναισθημάτων. Αναδεικνύουν μια
ιδιαίτερη ευαισθησία και πνευματική ελευθερία που εκφράζεται εκλεπτυσμένα
και συχνά με οξεία αίσθηση του χιούμορ. Τα έργα προβάλουν το φαντασιακό,
υπερβαίνοντας το κοινό ρεαλισμό και φέρνουν στην επιφάνεια απροσδόκητα
διαφορετικές οπτικές.
Ο τίτλος της έκθεσης Lion under the
rainbow, είναι δανεισμένος από ένα έργο του Vahid Sharifian. Έρχεται σε
αντίθεση με ότι περιμένει να ακούσει κανείς όταν αναφέρεται το Ιράν. Είναι ποιητικός και ταυτόχρονα
πολιτικός.
Ο Αλέξανδρος Γεωργίου έμεινε στην
Τεχεράνη για μεγάλο χρονικό διάστημα και το αποτέλεσμα της έρευνάς του
είναι αυτή η έκθεση που περιλαμβάνει δεκαεννιά καλλιτέχνες από
διαφορετικά μέσα (ζωγραφική, φωτογραφία, video, performance, μουσική,
ποίηση) και διαφορετικές γενιές:

Lion under the rainbow, contemporary art from Tehran
An exhibition of artworks by Iranian artists who live and work in Tehran, curated by
the artist Alexandros Georgiou and organized by D.ART non
profit cultural association. The exhibition is part of parallel plan
of ART ATHINA 2008.
This exhibition attempts to bring a wider audience into contact with
artworks that is hard to see, with the aim of being emotive and
questioning. It is an effort to present a culture with common concerns
with the West, but differing approaches. The works are personal and
specific; they present different interpretations of contemporary artistic
creativity, composing a unique and authentic world of thoughts and
emotions. They reveal a sensitivity and mental freedom, expressed in
refined manners frequently with a sharp sense of humor. The works go
beyond realism and they carry a fantastical element bringing forward an
unexpectedly different perspective.
The title, Lion under the rainbow,
is borrowed from a painting by Vahid Sharifan. It comes as a contradiction
to what one expects to hear when Iran is mentioned. It is
poetic and political simultaneously.
Alexandros Georgiou stayed in Tehran for a long period of time and his
research resulted in the idea of this exhibition which includes nineteen
artists from differing disciplines (painting, photography, video,
performance, music, poetry) and from varying generations: Reza Abedini
(graphic design), Shokoufeh Alidousti (photography), Mahmoud
Bakhshi-Moakhar (installation/video), Reza Bangiz
(painting), Ali Chitsaz (painting), Farshad Fozouni

Ninety works from the famous
Costakis Collection in the State Museum of Modern Art in Thessaloniki
are displayed in the Museum
of Cycladic Art
from 14 May to 20 October 2008. These are important items (paintings,
drawings, three-dimensional artefacts) representing all the groups and
movements of the Russian Avant-Garde (1900s-1930s).
The exhibition is entitled Five
Seasons of the Russian Avant-garde and includes some of the most
significant works of the collection by artists such as Malevich, Popova,
Tatlin, Rochenko, Nikritin, Lissitzky etc. It is divided into five units devoted
to the bold pioneering aesthetic experiments that took place in Russia
and, through their dynamism and boldness, transformed the history of
20th-century art.
The first unit is entitled The
Years Before, and includes works influenced by symbolism, expressionism
and post-impressionism; these paved the way for the vanguard that was to
follow.
The second unit is entitled The
Years of Travel and presents the relationship of Russian artists with
European art in the first two decades of the 20th century, the influence
of cubism and futurism, the search for novelty through a fresh approach
to tradition, the abolition of linear development, and the synthesis of
the arts.
The third unit is entitled The
Years of Mysticism and is devoted to philosophical theories of art,
with emphasis on the suprematism of Kazimir Malevich; these arise from
theosophist approaches and explore ways of expanding perception with the
aid of the visual image.
The fourth unit is entitled The
Years of Ideology and contains works related to the ideology of the
October Revolution; this assert a materialist approach to art, which is
integrated into the dream of changing the world, and seeks to provide
structural and functional ideas and solutions for architects, draughtsmen
and engineers.
The fifth unit is entitled The
Years After and is devoted to works by artists who refused to
subscribe to the aesthetic of socialist realism, but continued along a
difficult, lonely path, returning to representational art and recording
the conclusions of their pioneering experiments in a distinctive fashion.
The exhibition is accompanied by
documentation material from the Costakis Collection. The design of the
exhibition is a prototype that will form the basis for the exhibition to
be held next November in the Maillol Museum in Paris, under the title
Vers de Nouveaux Rivages – works form the Costakis Collection of the
State Museum of Modern Art.
As part of the exhibition, a short
film entitled “George Costakis – The collector that rewrote the art
history” (duration: 5:20’’, script: G. Papakonstantinou – D.
Koutsiabasakos, directed by D. Koutsiabasakos) is presented. As of May 19
the film “When Chagall valued less than a pound of potatoes” (directed by
G. Papakonstantinou, G. Zervas; duration: 70’) is presented in the
Stathatos Megaron Wing.
The exhibition is also accompanied
by a bilingual catalogue in Greek and English. During the course of it,
guided tours will be available for the public, and educational programmes
will be run.
The exhibition also forms part of the parallel programme of Art Athina.

Athensville is the place!
“Athensville” is the title of this year’s
project in the garage of Art Athina, which also embraces a series
of isolated works that extend helter-skelter between the gallery’s booths
and the outside of the building. It’s a show that focuses on artists who
live in Athens or are busy with work there (or with work that relates to
Athens), chosen regardless of age, generation, or period of their works,
but chosen for the main purpose of creating an atmosphere that somehow
conveys the idioms and eccentricities of the local surroundings. In contrast
to the customary atmosphere of the rest of Art Athina (or of any
other artistic venue that wants its works “for sale” to stand out under
the clear light of day), it represents a darker, stranger, more brittle
and interactive microcosm that is perhaps ultimately there to fully round
out the exhibition.
Interfacing with other artistic
presentations of the last few years, and with the debate about a future
artistic commonality in Greece, the aim of this show is neither to
specifically name the artists who will most likely be shaping the local
scene; nor is it to give the impression that there could even be such a
category of artists to be represented from a selection of art works.
Different attempts have been made, and different viewpoints have been put
forward, proposing list after list of artists’ names, via gallery
exhibitions or publications, where sometimes there is agreement, and
sometimes the one list cancels out the other, without anyone allowing the
appropriate time to pass which might give real justification to such a
thing. It always appears useful, before we try to isolate information
about what could be called the art scene of a place, to try to understand
the feeling of the place we’re talking about. With this concern in mind,
it may perhaps be more interesting to turn our attention to what it could
mean to say “Someone lives here”—in a country of contradictions, in a
mass of concrete where more than 500,000 people live in close contact
with each other and which spreads out under the emblematic shadow of the
Parthenon, the symbolic justification that functions like a permanent
excuse for opposition to any sort of “local irregularity” (in relation to
the Hellenic ideal) taking place in the Greece of today. But what does
“irregularity” mean? The action of Yiorgos Makris is characteristic: as
long ago as 1944 (three years after the “heroic” action of Glezos and
Sandas, who took the German flag down from the top of the Parthenon), he
wrote the “proclamation for blowing up the Acropolis,” which a whole group
of aesthetic saboteurs of antiquities joined in signing. This act did not
spring from any antihellenic sentiment, but from a deep yearning for
immediate recognition of the youth culture of Greece that needed to be
set apart from the emblem of the Parthenon—an emblem which was serving to
legitimize (if legitimization was needed) any sort of distortion *.
However, to explain the oddness and eccentricity of an environment, you
need more than the limited space of a page, or of a garage over a period
of four days; you need more than the framework of a gallery show. The
show, “Athensville,” has in no respect an obvious theoretical basis or
obvious criteria in its selection of works, or any tight curatorial
structure. Beyond everything else, it is an attempt to create a mirror of
this highly complex arena of a place, of Athens, (of Greece), a
constantly shifting situation of relationships and balances which is
constantly generating new relationships and balances—lightly
differentiated interpretations of what is always the same dynamic!
The works in the show “Athensville”
don’t refer to a scattered “Art” that “urgently” seeks immediate
correspondence, an obvious alignment either with the criteria (for
example) of the Parisian salon, or with the criteria of the more recent
model from the British scene (phenomena that you owe to completely
different local and temporal coincidences). Opposite is a mix of works,
older still, from 1986 and other more recent years (not that this has any
particular significance), which also, within a new network of connections
in present time, suit the contemporary situation. In most cases it’s a
question of works that they negotiate intensely and with pure intentions
the private and intensely familiar surroundings of their creators! These
in connection with the program of videos, co-curated with the group “Into
the Pill” and the program of musical performances in the care of the
music editor Monsieur Hulot—they shape Athensville as a place (a city, a
show, a scene) which ideally finds the situation of little changes or yet
of an odd fundamental stagnation and, together with some radical
movements which this stagnation has generated, a very interesting place
(in relation to developments in the purely western, fully commercialized
international art scene)—which we would have to accept and properly
exploit.
Among the “sculptures” is a bar (designed by Andreas Angelidakis), and it
functions, literally (it serves drinks) and symbolically, as an
inseparable part of the show. Encircled by all the rest of the works, it
calls the spectators to come together for further reflections on what
they know and don’t know at all, on something that they’ve seen another
time in a different setting, or that that they’ve never seen before. The
bar relates to a situation which, as described above, does not develop in
fits and starts or change from top to bottom (and when that does happen,
it perhaps misses the mark), but its very peculiarity (which is able to
develop in its own unique dynamic) guarantees exactly the opposite. It’s
very hard for me to close this writing without quoting a few verses from
the classic piece “Heaven” by the Talking Heads. There are those among us
who grew up with it!

RESTARTED
Μετά από ένα πετυχημένο restart το Μάιο του 2007, η 14η
διοργάνωση της Art Athina θα πραγματοποιηθεί από τις 23 έως τις 25 Μαΐου
2008 (preview 22 Μαΐου) στο εκθεσιακό κέντρο Helexpo Palace. Λαμβάνοντας
υπόψη τα θετικά σχόλια και το έντονο ενδιαφέρον των διεθνών γκαλερί και
την καθολική αναγνώριση των ελληνικών γκαλερί, η Art Athina επανέρχεται,
για να παρουσιάσει και φέτος ένα δυναμικό πρόγραμμα σε συνεργασία με
σημαντικούς Έλληνες και ξένους επαγγελματίες του χώρου της τέχνης (Μαρίνα
Φωκίδη, Bettina Busse, Sarah Belden, Isabella Bortolozzi) και
καλλιτέχνες. Φορέας της διοργάνωσης είναι ο Πανελλήνιος Σύνδεσμος
Αιθουσών Τέχνης (ΠΣΑΤ – Πρόεδρος: Γιάννα Γραμματοπούλου), γενικός
διευθυντής ο Μιχάλης Αργυρού και καλλιτεχνικός διευθυντής ο Χρήστος
Σαββίδης.
Στόχος της Art Athina αποτελεί η ανάδειξη της σύγχρονης
εικαστικής δημιουργίας, η ενεργοποίηση συλλεκτών καθώς επίσης και η
ανάδειξη της ελληνικής εικαστικής δημιουργίας διεθνώς.
Το πρόγραμμα φέτος διατηρεί και διευρύνει την ανανεωμένη δομή
της Art Athina 2007, δίνοντας περαιτέρω έμφαση στο παράλληλο πρόγραμμα,
με τρεις εκθέσεις σε χώρους εκτός της Helexpo. Έμφαση δίνεται επίσης στο
VIP πρόγραμμα, με αύξηση των VIP επισκεπτών κατά 30%.
Στο Basic Plan συμμετέχει το σύνολο σχεδόν των ελληνικών
γκαλερί καθώς και ποιοτικές διεθνείς γκαλερί. Η λίστα των γκαλερί
περιλαμβάνεται στο επισυναπτόμενο αναλυτικό πρόγραμμα. Στο πλαίσιο του
Basic Plan η γκαλερί Isabella Bortolozzi (Βερολίνο) επιμελείται το
project “1+9”
και προσκαλεί νέες και καθιερωμένες γκαλερί από τον διεθνή χώρο.
Το επιμελητικό τμήμα της φουάρ, Open Plan, επαναλαμβάνεται
φέτος, με ακόμη πιο έντονο τον εκθεσιακό του χαρακτήρα. Η επιμελήτρια
Bettina Busse προσκαλεί ενδιαφέρουσες διεθνείς αίθουσες τέχνης να
εκθέσουν γλυπτά και έργα χώρου, διευρύνοντας έτσι τον χαρακτήρα της
παραδοσιακής φουάρ, προσφέροντας νέες δυνατότητες προσέγγισης του έργου
τέχνης.
Ειδικό αφιέρωμα θα γίνει φέτος σε νέες ανερχόμενες γκαλερί
από τη Νέα Υόρκη και το Βερολίνο, δύο σημαντικά εικαστικά κέντρα του
κόσμου, ένα project που επιμελείται η Sarah Belden, διευθύντρια του χώρου
σύγχρονης τέχνης Curators without Βorders (Βερολίνο).
Στο πλαίσιο του Parallel Plan και μέσα στο χώρο του Helexpo
το Garage Project επιμελείται φέτος η Μαρίνα Φωκίδη, που θα εστιάσει στο
περιβάλλον της τοπικής καλλιτεχνικής παραγωγής. Η Μαρίνα Φωκίδη
επιμελείται επίσης τις «Παρεμβάσεις» καλλιτεχνών σε όλους τους χώρους του
κτηρίου. Στο πλαίσιο των Art Talks θα μιλήσουν προσωπικότητες από το χώρο
της τέχνης ανάμεσα τους η επιμελήτρια Catherine David και ο αρθρογράφος και
επιμελητής Christian Viveros-Faune, που αυτή τη στιγμή απασχολεί το
διεθνή τύπο, λόγω της συζήτησης περί δεοντολογίας των κριτικών τέχνης που
προέκυψε μετά από πρόσφατες συνεργασίες του με διεθνείς φουάρ.
Στο παράλληλο πρόγραμμα και υπό την αιγίδα της Art Athina
περιλαμβάνονται τρεις εκθέσεις που θα διεξαχθούν εκτός του εκθεσιακού
χώρου Helexpο. Η έκθεση από την συλλογή Κωστάκη «Πέντε Εποχές της Ρωσικής
Πρωτοπορίας» στο Μουσείο Κυκλαδικής Τέχνης είναι μια πρωτότυπη παραγωγή.
Τμήμα της συλλογής Κωστάκη παρουσιάζεται για πρώτη φορά στην Αθήνα, μετά
την απόκτηση της από το ΚΜΣΤ. Ενδιαφέρουσα αναμένεται και η έκθεση «Lion
under the rainbow, art from Tehran» σε επιμέλεια Αλέξανδρου Γεωργίου με
έργα 19 καλλιτεχνών που ζουν στην Τεχεράνη. Τέλος η έκθεση «Elements of
Light» σε επιμέλεια του Boris Manner, αποτελεί συνέχεια και εδραίωση της
συνεργασίας της Art Athina με το Stella Art Foundation, που δημιουργεί το
πρώτο Μουσείο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης στη Μόσχα.

Art Athina successfully launched its
restart in May 2007.
This year, the fair makes a dynamic comeback, after having received warm

(Isabella Bortolozzi Gallery, Berlin) invites cutting edge international
galleries.
Open Plan
Art Athina’s curatorial section, introduced in 2007, is brought back this
year with a stronger exhibitional feel. Curator Bettina Busse (Berlin) invites
interesting international art galleries to exhibit sculptures and
installations, stretching the limits of the traditional art fair,
offering new opportunities to buyers.
Focus: New York-Berlin - “First we take Manhattan
then we take Berlin”
This year’s special tribute will focus on emerging, cutting-edge
galleries from New York and Berlin, invited by Sarah Belden (Curators without
Borders gallery, Berlin).
Parallel Plan
The fair’s parallel programme provides a platform for a number of curated
projects and events, onsite at Helexpo and offsite in venues around the
city, including exhibitions, performances, talks and encounters.
This year’s Garage Project is curated by Marina Fokidis who will focus on
local artistic production.
Marina Fokidis will also curate the project “Interventions”, with artistic
projects especially created for various spaces around the fair venue.
The Art Athina Art Talks will feature discussions between art
professionals on various subjects, such as narcissism, ownership,
consumption and criticism. Among the participating speakers are Catherine
David and Christian Viveros-Faune.
The offsite exhibitions include:
The exhibition “Five Seasons of the Russian Avant-Garde. Works from the
Costakis Collection”, organized by the Museum of Cycladic
Art, in collaboration with the State Museum
of Contemporary Art and coordinated by ArtBOX.gr | creative arts
management. This is the first time that part of the Costakis Collection
is presented in Athens,
after its acquisition by the State Museum of Contemporary Art.
The exhibition “Lion under the rainbow. Art from Tehran”,
curated by Alexandros Georgiou, will present works by 19 artists based in
Tehran.
The exhibition is a production of D-ART – Non-Profit Organisation.
Finally the exhibition “Elements of Light”, curated by Boris Manner,
represents Art Athina’s close collaboration with Stella Art Foundation,
that is establishing the first Contemporary
Art Museum in Moscow. The exhibition is a
co-production of Stella Art Foundation and the University of Applied Arts
in Vienna, organized in Greece by the Hellenic American Union and
coordinated by ArtBOX.gr | creative arts management.

δίνεται επίσης στο VIP πρόγραμμα.
Η φουάρ χωρίζεται σε τέσσερα βασικά τμήματα: το Basic Plan,
το Open Plan, το Focus: Berlin Now και το Parallel Plan. Το Basic Plan
και το Parallel Plan περιλαμβάνουν επιμέρους projects.

τέχνης παρουσιάζουν σε περίπτερα (booths) τους καλλιτέχνες που

- Το project ‘1+9’
είναι ένα αυτόνομο τμήμα μέσα στο Basic Plan, στο οποίο η Isabella
Bortolozzi (Bortolozzi Gallery, Βερολίνο) προσκαλεί διεθνείς δυναμικές
γκαλερί. Στο project αυτό θα συμμετάσχουν οι γκαλερί: Ancient &
Modern (Λονδίνο), Andreas Huber Gallery (Βιέννη), Balice – Hertling
(Παρίσι), Croy Nielsen (Βερολίνο), Dependance (Βρυξέλλες), Francesca Pia
(Ζυρίχη), Isabella Bortolozzi Gallery (Βερολίνο), Micky Schubert
(Βερολίνο), Laura Bartlett Gallery (Λονδίνο), Standard (Όσλο).
> Το Open Plan παρουσιάζει γκαλερί με εκθεσιακό τρόπο σε
ειδικά διαμορφωμένο, ενιαίο χώρο (όχι περίπτερα). Με αυτόν τον τρόπο
δίνεται η δυνατότητα στους καλλιτέχνες να δημιουργήσουν μεγάλου μεγέθους
έργα και εγκαταστάσεις, που η παρουσίασή τους σε περίπτερα είναι συχνά
δύσκολη. Παράλληλα παρέχονται νέες αγοραστικές δυνατότητες στους
συλλέκτες, σε σχέση με αυτές που κατά κανόνα συναντάμε στις φουάρ.

τέχνης της Βιέννης – MAK. Μεταξύ άλλων έχει επιμεληθεί τις εκθέσεις:
Jenny Holzer (2007 – MAK), Anish Kapoor (2006), Atelier van Lieshout
(2005 – MAK). Το 2007 επιμελήθηκε την έκθεση New Visions – Contemporary
Art from Austrian Collections στο πλαίσιο της VIENNAFAIR.
> Το project Berlin NOW - “ .. then we take Berlin” είναι
το φετινό ειδικό αφιέρωμα σε νέες, ανερχόμενες γκαλερί από το Βερολίνο,
σημαντικό μητροπολιτικό κέντρα της σύγχρονης καλλιτεχνικής δημιουργίας.
Την επιμέλεια έχει αναλάβει η Sarah Belden (Curators without Borders,
Βερολίνο).
Στο project αυτό θα συμμετάσχουν οι γκαλερί: Curators Without Borders
(Βερολίνο), Galerie Gillian Morris, Galerie Air Garten, Upstairs Berlin,
Pitrowski, Stedenfreunde, Tristesse Deluxe.
>> Ο χώρος Curators Without Borders λειτουργεί ως πλατφόρμα για
ανεξάρτητους επιμελητές, με στόχο να παρουσιάσει ένα ευρύ φάσμα
επιμελητικής δράσης, χωρίς περιορισμούς από παραδοσιακές συμβάσεις ή
γεωγραφικά όρια. Βασικές προτεραιότητες του χώρου, εκτός από τη συμμετοχή
στη σύγχρονη καλλιτεχνική σκηνή του Βερολίνου, η προώθηση ντόπιων
καλλιτεχνών στο εξωτερικό, η δημιουργία σχέσεων μέσα από ανταλλαγές
επιμελητικών project και εκθέσεων σε διεθνές επίπεδο, μέσα από τη
συνεργασία με ανεξάρτητους επιμελητές, φορείς, μουσεία και γκαλερί.
> Το Parallel Plan είναι σχεδιασμένο προκειμένου να
λειτουργήσει ως πλατφόρμα για ειδικά project –στο χώρο της Helexpo αλλά
και εκτός, σε διάφορα σημεία της Αθήνας– και περιλαμβάνει εκθέσεις,
performances, συζητήσεις και συναντήσεις, που θα μεγιστοποιήσουν το ενδιαφέρον
ειδικών και κοινού.

- The Garage Project: Athensville
Επιμέλεια: Μαρίνα Φωκίδη
Στόχος του project είναι να παρουσιάσει τη δυναμική της τοπικής
καλλιτεχνικής σκηνής, μέσα από μια έκθεση στο γκαράζ της Helexpo, που
συμπληρώνεται από μεμονωμένα έργα που εκτείνονται παρεμβατικά ανάμεσα στα
περίπτερα των γκαλερί.
Όπως σημειώνει η επιμελήτρια: «Η έκθεση συγκεντρώνει καλλιτέχνες που ζουν
ή δραστηριοποιούνται στην Αθήνα (ή σε αναφορά με αυτή)
επιλεγμένους/επιλεγμένες ανεξαρτήτως ηλικίας, καλλιτεχνικής γενιάς, ή της
ηλικίας του έργου τους, αλλά με κύριο μέλημα να δημιουργηθεί μια
ατμόσφαιρα η οποία με τον έναν ή τον άλλον τρόπο να μεταφέρει
ιδιωματισμούς και εκκεντρικότητες του τοπικού περιβάλλοντος. Ένας
μικρόκοσμος, ο οποίος σε αντιπαράθεση με την τυποποιημένη ατμόσφαιρα της
υπόλοιπης Αrt Athina ή οποιασδήποτε άλλης εικαστικής foire πιο σκοτεινός,
πιο εύθραυστος και πιο συμμετοχικός και εν τέλη συμπληρώνει την εκδήλωση.
Η έκθεση Athensville, δεν έχει με κανένα τρόπο ένα συγκεκριμένο θεωρητικό
υπόβαθρο, ούτε συγκεκριμένα κριτήρια επιλογής έργων, ούτε κάποια σφικτή
επιμελητική δομή. Περισσότερο από όλα είναι μια προσπάθεια να
δημιουργηθεί μια αντανάκλαση αυτού του πολύπλοκου πεδίου ενός τόπου, της
Αθήνας (της Ελλάδας), μιας διαρκώς εναλλασσόμενης κατάστασης σχέσεων και
ισορροπιών που γεννά διαρκώς νέες –ελαφρά διαφοροποιημένες εκδοχές– της
πάντοτε ίδιας δυναμικής! Πρόκειται γα μια τοποθεσία (μια πόλη, μια
έκθεση, μια σκηνή) που ιδεατά βρίσκει την κατάσταση των μικρών μεταβολών
ή ακόμη της παράδοξης οργανικής στασιμότητας και μαζί κάποιων
ριζοσπαστικών κινήσεων που γεννά αυτή η στασιμότητα, μια πολύ
ενδιαφέρουσα θέση (σε σχέση με τις εξελίξεις της αμιγούς δυτικής, πλήρως
εμπορευματοποιημένης διεθνούς σκηνής της τέχνης) –την οποία θα έπρεπε να
αποδεχτούμε και να εκμεταλλευτούμε σωστά.»

χαρακτήρα–, παρουσιάσεις βιβλίων, και φορέων, από επαγγελματίες του χώρου
της τέχνης. Ανάμεσα στους συμμετέχοντες ομιλητές είναι η επιμελήτρια
Catherine David και ο Christian Viveros-Faune (συγγραφέας, επιμελητής,
Σύμβουλος Επιμελητής στις φουάρ VOLTA NY και NEXT), o Roger Buergel
(Καλλιτεχνικός Διευθυντής της Documenta XII, 2007) και η Ruth Noack
(Επιμελήτρια της Documenta XII, 2007), November Paynter (Διευθύντρια του

90 περίπου έργα από τη συλλογή Κωστάκη, την σημαντικότερη συλλογή ρωσικής
πρωτοπορίας στον κόσμο που καλύπτουν την χρονική περίοδο από το 1900 ως
το 1943 παρουσιάζονται μέσα από αυτήν την πρωτότυπη παραγωγή που είναι
σχεδιασμένη ειδικά για το Μουσείο Κυκλαδικής Τέχνης. Η έκθεση
περιλαμβάνει ορισμένα από τα σημαντικότερα έργα της συλλογής, από
καλλιτέχνες όπως οι Malevich, Popova, Tatlin, Rochenko, Nikritin,
Lissitzky, κ.ά., καθώς και Το Δωμάτιο του Συλλέκτη, με προσωπικά
αντικείμενα του συλλέκτη Γιώργου Κωστάκη, που παρουσιάζονται για πρώτη
φορά. Θα συνοδεύεται από πρόγραμμα διαλέξεων και εκπαιδευτικών
προγραμμάτων.
- “Lion under the rainbow, art from Tehran, contemporary art
from Tehran”

Η έκθεση αυτή επιχειρεί –μέσα από τα έργα 19 καλλιτεχνών που εκπροσωπούν
διαφορετικές γενιές και χρησιμοποιούν διαφορετικά μέσα έκφρασης
(ζωγραφική, φωτογραφία, βίντεο, performance, μουσική, ποίηση)– να φέρει
το κοινό σε επαφή με έργα που δύσκολα μπορεί να δει, με στόχο να
συγκινήσει, να προβληματίσει και να παρουσιάσει έναν πολιτισμό με κοινούς
προβληματισμούς με τη Δύση, αλλά διαφορετικές προσεγγίσεις.

Art Foundation που δημιουργεί το πρώτο Μουσείο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης της
Μόσχας με επιμελητή τον Robert Storr.

HELEXPO PALACE CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION CENTRE ATHENS, GREECE
RESTARTED
Art Athina was first established in 1994,
by the Hellenic Art Galleries Association, being among the oldest
contemporary art fairs in Europe. The
fair played a decisive role in the creation of a dynamic arts market in Greece.
Art Athina successfully launched its restart in May 2007, following a
necessary one year’s pause, in order to regroup its forces and review its
goals, in relation to the international art market.
This year, the fair makes a dynamic comeback, after having received warm
feedback from international and local galleries. The fair will
collaborate once more with Greek and international art professionals,
among them Marina Fokidis, Bettina Busse, Sarah Belden, Isabella
Bortolozzi, in order to deliver a rich, stimulating programme of projects
and events that balance a commercial and curatorial approach.

This year’s special tribute will focus on emerging, cutting-edge
galleries from Berlin, invited by Sarah
Belden (Curators without Borders gallery, Berlin): Curators Without Borders,
Galerie Gillian Morris, Galerie Air Garten, Upstairs Berlin, Pitrowski,
Stedenfreunde, Tristesse Deluxe.
Parallel Plan
The fair’s parallel programme provides a platform for a number of curated
projects and events, onsite at Helexpo and offsite in venues around the
city, including exhibitions, performances, talks and encounters.
This year’s Garage Project is titled
“Athensville” and curated by Marina Fokidis. The project includes an
exhibition at the fair venue’s garage, as well as a number of individual
projects and works in various locations in and out of the building. This
exhibition presents artists that live and work in Athens
(or use Athens
as a reference point in their work), selected regardless of generation or
age of the artist or of the work. The main focus of the exhibition is to
create an atmosphere that will convey eccentricities and idioms of the
local art scene. A microcosm that is intended to antagonize the
atmosphere of the main fair, or any other art fair, a microcosm that is
dark, fragile, and in a away more participative, and thus intends to
complement the event.
The Art Athina Art Talks will
feature discussions between art professionals on various subjects,
presentations of local and international projects, institutions and
publications. Among the participating speakers are Catherine David,
Christian Viveros-Faune, Roger Buergel, Ruth Noack, November Paynter, and
Bonnie Marranca.
The offsite exhibitions include:
The exhibition “Five Seasons of the Russian Avant-Garde. Works from the
Costakis Collection”, organized by the Museum of Cycladic
Art, in collaboration with the State Museum
of Contemporary Art and coordinated by ArtBOX.gr | creative arts
management. This is the first time that part of the Costakis Collection
will be presented in Athens,
after its acquisition by the State Museum of Contemporary Art.
The exhibition “Lion under the
rainbow. Art from Tehran”, curated by
Alexandros Georgiou, will present works by 19 artists based in Tehran. The
exhibition is a production of D-ART – Non-Profit Organisation.
The exhibition “Elements of Light”,
curated by Boris Manner, represents Art Athina’s close collaboration with
Stella Art Foundation, that is establishing the first Contemporary Art
Museum in Moscow.
The
exhibition is a co-production of Stella Art Foundation and the University
of Applied Arts in Vienna, organized in Greece by the Hellenic American
University and coordinated by ArtBOX.gr | creative arts management.
Finally, the exhibition “Looking
forward to hearing from you…” presents contemporary Cypriot artists. It
is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Education of Cyprus and the
Embassy of Cyprus in Athens- House of Cyprus,
in collaboration with the Gounaropoulos
Museum, where it
will take place.
